James A. (“Jim”) Showers was born in Austin, Texas on July 30, 1941. His family soon moved to Mission, Texas in the Rio Grande Valley, where he grew up and attended school. He married Jan Showers, a native of Hillsboro, while they were attending TCU. After both graduated in 1963, they moved to Austin where he obtained his law education at the University of Texas (JD 1966); he was a member of Phi Alpha Delta. The Showers moved to Hillsboro following law school where they have since made their primary home. Showers joined the firm of Martin & Martin in 1966, the predecessor to the current firm, where he has been a partner for over forty years. He has been active in both local (Hill County Bar Association President, 1979) and state and national professional organizations throughout his legal career, including service on the Board of Directors of the State Bar of Texas, 1982 until 1989 ( MCLE Committee, 1994-97), Texas Trial Lawyers Association, American Association of Justice, Texas Council of School Attorneys, American Bar Association, and is a Life Fellow of the Texas Bar Foundation. Having been appointed by the Governor as a Commissioner on the National Conference on Uniform State Laws, he served in that position from 1973 until 1984. He has also been very active in community affairs in Hill County throughout the years, serving the City of Hillsboro as City Attorney from 1962 until 1982, awarded the Distinguished Service Award by the Hillsboro Jaycees in 1970, President of the local Rotary Club, as a member of the Hillsboro Chamber of Commerce Board and its Industrial Committee, and an original organizer of the Economic Development Corporation of Hillsboro, where he remains on the Board of Directors. Showers and his wife, interior designer Jan Showers, have two children, Susanna Moldawer of Houston and Elizabeth Showers of Dallas. They have also had a home and offices in Dallas for many years, where Jan Showers has her business, Jan Showers & Associates. They are active in civic and cultural organizations in Dallas. Jim Showers is a member of the Dallas Bar Association Showers was admitted to the State Bar of Texas in 1966, and is also admitted to the Western and Northern Districts of the U.S. District Court, and the U.S. Court of Appeals, Fifth Circuit.
